A New year , New Dreams

Hi Everyone,

We just finished with our 2015 Summer Internship Training Program and I am proud to tell you all that we at Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science  had reached our target of providing 100 Internship Training Opportunities to our students. There were 110Sumer Internship Training opportunities to be precise.

All the students had a great learning experience, whether it was a pharmaceutical company, online social media marketing or working with NGOS. They also reported weekly through the weekly reporting form provide by College.

We want to encourage students work with NGOS and other organizations who are doing some good work in Goa in Social Development and such an experience can be very rewarding when you finish your college. It stands out as a very unique experience in personality building and can be a differentiating factor in a  job interview in near future as for most of the Organizations it is mandatory to do activities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility and having smart new recruits which are socially sensitive is a bonus for such organizations.

I take pride in mentioning to you that there were 10 students who applied  to work for a Social cause , for e.g working with reading promotion at Bookworm ,  Supporting underprivileged women and kids at Tara Trust or spreading smiles with specially abled children at  Atmavishwas We had only 2 students who applied last year compared to the 10 this year.

However, only 64 students  applied and got through the selection process. This is only a 26% rise in applicants compared to last years 51 students. We had many opportunities working in Print media like the Internships with Magazines like Planet Goa, Goa Prism , and news papers like  Times of India at Panjim . There were also multiple opportunities to work with IT Start ups in online marketing and blogging and couple of opportunities in editing to work in area of self publishing at Margao and Verna.

But students did not cash on the opportunities and hence it was a little disappointing.

From this Year 2015-16 with Parvatibai Chowgule College as the Only Autonomous College affiliated to Goa University, the students will be rewarded with 4 credits for opting for Internship Trainings.

The aim is to provide Internship Training to all the students joining first year from June 2015, But we want students to come to us and tell us what are the areas they are interested in.

We want more support from you students to to work towards making this new Dream Successful.

Lots of wishes

Vasant

What are the Best Internships for Science and Arts College?

Hi friends,

I suddenly realise that you guys dont know much about the  4 week 'Summer Internship Program'that we have here at Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science.
Internship Ceremony with Company Professionals at Chowgule College Campus June 2014.

So what is the Best Internship as an Arts/Science for you? Well, good question...but to tell you what! Internships are pockets of life experiences which are important for any student in general whether you do Arts or Science or Commerce or Engineering..... it doesn't matter!
They are small pockets of Real Life Experiences, Sweet, not so Sweet, Sour, Unusual  etc .....well that's pretty much what life is all about you see a' Box of Chocolates, you will never know which flavor you will get ! ' Forest Gump Says in the movie ! :)

If you haven't see n the movie and have no clue what I am talking about, Never mind! All you have to know i s as a  student an Internship is your opportunity to try out few things' hands on' about what you like (or you think you like...)and possibly try and figure out where you fit it in the Real World Mix!
Every internship is an interesting way of finding out whats your inner calling and what are your strengths and weaknesses.

We cannot exactly tell you how exactly an intrenship experience is going to be, whether you will love it or hate it! All we can say is 'Keep your eyes and ears open, give your best and enjoy the experience '.

Sooner or later you will  figure out what you are made up of! :)
In April - May 2014 , 51 students voluntarily did Internships in Goa at 20 different organizations in Goa. Some of  the  organizations where our students worked as interns are: Salgaocar Football club (marketing/PR) , NGO Tara Trust (Workshop Assistant), Reynold Weddings (Events Coordinator/Stock Keeping), CinnamonTeal (Book publishing, editing, writing blurbs), Arjun tree (Real Estate, content writing), Grace Cardiac and Nusi Wochardt (Health care), Carpe Diem (Art Gallery, event coordinator) etc.

Sales Interns at Suzuki Quadros - Motor Sales Office - Borda Margao Goa , India
Next  year we are getting many more exciting Internships in Adventure Sport like Sailing, Wild Life , IT Companies, Pharmaceutical Companies, Social Entrepreneurs,  Designing Studios and more. And Guess what this is all happening right here in Goa!

Our Mission for the April - May 2015 Sumemr Internships is 100 Summer Internships in various Organisations in Goa.

So think about what you will like to do in the 2015 Summer holidays and make the most of this opportunity.

P.S. Students will get 4 credits for the 4 week internship, a certificate from College, letter of commendation from Organization/company and a fascinating learning experience for sure! :)

Cheers

Bridging Gap Between Colleges and Industries - Online

Hi All,

How to Bridge Gap between Colleges and Industries ? Is this question very familiar? If you are in education field; either a student, a teacher or  corporate communicator like me. We face this question day in and day out and dont really have a plan to go about addressing it!

We all agree for  things like company projects, internships, industrial visits, seminars etc that will help students to get some experience of the real world , have better organizational skills, decision making, creativity and most importantly accountability.

Well all this is important, but are we missing a link here or are we purposely ignoring something here?

Communication! Yes it is a simple word that we all are aware of , but it is also something that is taken for granted. We feel that in todays online or shall I say digital world, every organization is striving to communicate to its target audience and build effective networks. Companies today need integrated marketing/communication officers who can effectively work on  various available online means of communicating and maintaining a healthy relationship with the target audience/ clients through social media sites like facebook, twitter. They need people who can write well and also write effectively on different platforms to have the communication healthy and regular.

For an e.g. If you are running a blog that is going to help users coming to your website and know about your services, you need good content writers and people who understand search engines.

By no means I am suggesting that we dont want the traditional - pick your phone and take an appointment'    way. The traditional means of communication along with emailing will remain to be important. But reaching to masses is through the online media to increase business is the need of the hour.

We at Parvatibai Chowgule College are trying to built a Year Round System of Internship  Program here in Goa with Communication as the Key Indicator here.

A young individual will be working with the company and learning its business to communicate effectively on various online platforms that the company is using.

There are some companies who are using the online communication medium effectively, others are still figuring it out. We at Chowgule College are pleased to tell you all that we will be working with Real Estate Company , Arjun Tree  and Book Publishing Company Cinnamonteal  in the year 2014-15 to drive the YEar Round Internship Model . Few more IT companies have joined hands like Kaavay  and Genora in the initiative and they see a HUGE potential in driving this system.

We also have 1month Internships currently happening at Chowgule College for all students.

The Plan is as follows:
1) Creative awareness amongst students  about the needs of the company
2) Personal meet ups with company Direcors/ CEOs with interested folks
3) Interview to choose the deserving ones
4) Start working and weekly reporting to college and company on the work the student does with the company.

Hope this works out into a solid foundation for the youth  and help us  build on in Bridging the Gap between Industries and Colleges.

Good days are here.

Changing Times- Change is Good!:)

BarCamp at Chowgule College - Initiative that will involve youth
Wow....I must say these are exciting times in Goa. I strongly feel people feel the need and the sense of urgency to share things in groups by meeting people physically and not only on social networking sites like Face Book.  I dont mean to say FB is not important, in fact it is a very important tool to reach the masses. There are initiatives like The Creative Pool  Goa plus    and Barcamps which have emerged out of the necessity of coming together and sharing.

Creative Pool at Taleigao - Group of art lovers- all forms of art meet every sat

There are many other groups
If we think for a minute we would realize that  we need to preserve, creativity, art music, literature and many other aspects of society which are getting lost in the Internet world where people LIKE many things on FB but personally do not take the effort to support these initiatives.
Gao Plus- Looking at things in a new way
But there are some like minded people in Goa who are working towards having a beautiful connected Goa where we critically talk about the wrong doings, appreciate good leaders, appreciate art, celebrate knowledgeand most importantly meet people physically in forums.

I can see wonderful things happening in state like Goa, where people are willing to come together. The response for all these events is not great but as we speak only the people who want to move things will move first. The others sooner or later will follow.

Long live enthusiasm long live initiatives in Goa for a better Goa.

College Experience- Make the most of Open Day! 12th MAY 2013

Hi Folks,

Well, its been a while I blogged! I should seriously put a habit of blogging ...anyways what I wanted o say today is about the College Experience.

I bet each one of us now and then become nostalgic and recollect the past good old days that we had with our friends in our college. I remember how excited I was when  when I finished schooling and stepped into the College atmosphere. Trust me guys, the feeling was amazing......right from the fact that there were no uniforms, bigger campus, interaction with students from different schools and most scary the new syllabus! :(

It all turned out to be lot of fun after a few days when I made friends with new students, spent time playing and getting knackered!!! yes we used to play and play and play all the time.....Times have changed you see! You see people getting knackered FBing all the time!
At Chowgule College, We all are TIGERS! :)

Never mind, the point is I must admit I had some of the best times in my college then, Chowgule College  because the things which I found hell different from schools, and scary like everything to be spoken and done was in english, open culture without any uniforms, lots of activities (i enjoyed athletics: sprinting, long jump, and playing cricket :) ) were actually helped me build  what I am today. We also studied hard and got good marks and build great relationships with our teachers and friends.

The best part about Chowgule College was there was no study burden or an environment where you start feeling that college is just another school. It was different. It was more like exploring the unknown doing the science experiments, team spirit and fun during all the youth festivals we participated.

So guys, here we are celebrating an Open day for everyone on 12th May  2013 at Chowgule College. On this day come to Chowgule College and see whether you would like to have your college experience exciting, fun filled and yet focused to wards your career goals.

Open day gives students and parents a preview of the college experience the student is going to experience in the next 3 years of graduation. You can interact with fellow students, ask questions about various subject combinations and career prospects to teachers. Get your doubts solved about sports and fitness. Enjoy the college tour and see all the department and facilities and have lot of fun with good food and drinks! :)

Hope to see you all on 12th May 2013!

Please contact me on 8408087197 or email me on vah001@chowgules.ac.in for any more information on Open days.

My dad wanted me to be an engineer....:( Be Accountable for Your Career Decisions!

Hi All,

Good  Morning! Well I again want to discuss this with all of you. Are you all aware of your career decisions that you take for your professional degree courses. Are there people who have taken their decisions because their dad or mom wanted him or her to do so????

I have many friends who tell me that You know what I wouldn't have taken engineering  if my dad hadn't forced me to take. Come one guys! Are we so lame to come up with this??? We dont want our dad/mom to do anything right from buying the bike we like and the sports we play, or the music we follow. Do we?? We just tell them ''Papa/Mamma you dont know abut this anything so please dont tell me! ''

But hello! when it comes to our careers why are we are  not so excited to find out what we like or what we want to do!  Why dont we spend time with our families, frneds discussing the various professions that we really like. Why we go on the so called "There is scope in computers"  or " there is good money of you are an engineer " theory!

Dont you think if we take decisions (off course by proper guidance and advise from experts, but being honest with what we really like ) about our careers we would be very happy in what we do! and guess what we would be excellent forget good and average! :)

Trust me 70% of your time when you start working is involved in the work you do, which also involves trainings associated for the job, learning involved for the job, the time you speak about what to do next in your job,  appraisals, meetings, professionally socializing etc. And if we dont love what we do..then for a major amount of the time in a day we would be unhappy that would lead to a not so great day and hence a not so good life! I read this phrase some days agao on Facebook and I feel thats right!

It said "You live your life the way you Live your Day! :) "

Hence guys be accountable when you take your career decisions after your 12th standard examinations. You cannot blame you parents. The parents may not be able to know what is exactly that you want from your career! Only you know it and may be the friends who work and spend time with you in the college can tell you about your strengths and your passions.

Enjoy every day and keep the PASSION LAMP Glowing! :)

Happy Reading ! :)
